The story
On Yalda the watermelon, eaten in the depth of winter, is often said to carry the warmth of summer into the coldest season. Its red flesh sits on the table beside pomegranates as a small promise of the light to come.
Persiahaus Studio drew a single half watermelon at the bottom of a deep lapis sky, with turquoise rind, red flesh and a fan of black seeds, under a pale moon and a field of paper and saffron stars. It is a calm picture for a bedroom wall.
