The company of the rulers of darkness is the night of Yalda; seek light from the sun, that perhaps it may rise.
The story
In this couplet Hafez compares the company of the powers of darkness to shab-e Yalda, the longest night, and tells the listener to look to the sun in the hope that it will rise. It is one of the lines that has tied the poet to the Yalda tradition, when his Divan is read aloud through the night.
Persiahaus Studio set the two half-lines in paper-white Nastaliq on an ink ground, over a pomegranate arch, inside a fine frame with turquoise stars at its corners. The landscape format gives each half-line its own full measure.
