The story
The Persian word pardis goes back to an Old Iranian term for a walled enclosure. Through Greek it became paradeisos, and from there the English word paradise, so the idea of paradise has a Persian garden wall at its root.
Persiahaus Studio drew a single walled garden in a square: crossing channels, a star pool at the centre and rows of cypresses in each quarter, in ink and white on a warm clay ground. The wall is just a line, but it is the line that makes it a garden.
