Hafez · Ghazal 96 · Our pain has no cure

The faal · reaching out

This short ghazal is a single cry: help! Hafez does not hide his longing or pretend he can manage alone, and there is wisdom in that. If something has overwhelmed your heart, you are allowed to say so and to ask for support. Calling out is not weakness; it is the first step towards relief. The very act of naming your pain makes it lighter to carry. Reach out to someone you trust, and let them share the weight with you. You do not have to burn alone.

The ghazal in English

Our pain has no cure: help!
Our separation has no end: help!

They have taken faith and heart, and now they are after the soul:
help against the cruelty of the fair ones, help!

For the price of a single kiss they demand a soul,
these stealers of hearts: help!

These faithless-hearted ones have drunk our blood:
O Muslims, what remedy is there? Help!

Like Hafez, day and night, beside myself,
I have been burning and weeping: help!
