Ghazal · 14th century

Our pain has no cure

Hafez

Our pain has no cure: help!

Our separation has no end: help!

They have taken faith and heart, and now they are after the soul:

help against the cruelty of the fair ones, help!

For the price of a single kiss they demand a soul,

these stealers of hearts: help!

These faithless-hearted ones have drunk our blood:

O Muslims, what remedy is there? Help!

Like Hafez, day and night, beside myself,

I have been burning and weeping: help!
