The story
A shamseh, from shams, sun, is the radiating medallion that illuminators placed at the opening of fine manuscripts: a disc ringed with fine rays, often in gold and blue.
Persiahaus Studio stripped the shamseh back to flat colour and clean radii: a saffron disc, rays as simple wedges, the whole set on an off-white ground beside a black square and a blue triangle. It sits halfway between a manuscript page and a modernist poster, which is exactly where we like to stand.
