بر رهگذرت بستهام از دیده، دو صد جویتا بو که تو چون سرو خرامان به درآیی
حافظ! مکن اندیشه که آن یوسف مهروبازآید و از کلبه احزان به درآیی!
This ghazal is full of emergence: the sun rising after dawn, a rose opening from its bud, the moon coming out of a dark night. Hafez breathes his blessing patiently, like the breeze, until what is hidden blooms. If you are waiting for something to open or someone to appear, these images are for you. Do not walk away thirsty from what truly nourishes you. The last line is one of the most consoling in the Divan: do not worry, Joseph will come back, and you will leave the house of sorrows.
O heart, if you come out of that well of the chin,
wherever you go, you will soon come out full of regret.
Take care, for if you listen to the whisperings of reason,
like Adam you will come out of the garden of paradise.
Perhaps the heavens will not give you a hand even with a drop of water
if you come away thirsty-lipped from the spring of life.
Like the dawn, I am giving up my life in longing to see you,
in hope that, like the shining sun, you will come out.
Like the breeze, I will breathe my blessing on you so long
that, like the rose from its bud, you will come out glad and laughing.
In the dark night of your absence my soul has risen to my lips;
it is time that you came out like the shining moon.
On your path I have set two hundred streams flowing from my eyes,
in hope that you will come out like a swaying cypress.
Hafez, do not worry, for that moon-faced Joseph
will come back, and you will come out of the house of sorrows.
