The story

The boteh is one of the most familiar motifs of Persian design, a teardrop with a curling tip that has been read as a flame, a cypress bent in the wind or a seed. Its exact origin is debated, which suits a shape that has always meant several things at once.

Persiahaus Studio drew two rows of large boteh on a clay ground, in ink, white, red and dark lapis, each nested with a smaller boteh and turning in alternate directions. At this scale the pattern becomes a composition, made for a bedroom or a quiet corner.
