Do not part from me

Hafez

Do not part from me, for you are the light of my eyes,

the rest of my soul and the companion of my startled heart.

Lovers will not let go of the hem of your robe;

you have torn the shirt of their patience.

May no harm come to you from your own fortune's eye,

for in stealing hearts you have reached the height of beauty.

Do not forbid me her love, O mufti of the age;

I hold you excused, for you have never seen her.

That reproach the Friend made you, Hafez:

perhaps you stretched your feet beyond your blanket.
