As long as there is wine and tavern

Hafez

As long as there is any name or trace of tavern and wine,

my head will be the dust of the road of the Magian elder.

The ring of the Magian elder has been in my ear since the first day;

we are as we were, and so it will be.

When you pass by my grave, ask for a blessing,

for it will be the place of pilgrimage for the rends of the world.

Go, self-regarding zahid, for from my eyes and yours

the secret of this veil is hidden, and hidden it will stay.

My lover-slaying Turk went out drunk today;

let us see whose blood will flow from the eyes next.

My eye, from the moment it lays its head in the grave from longing for you,

will keep watching until the dawn of resurrection.

If Hafez's fortune helps him in this way,

the beloved's curl will be in other hands.
