The faal · trust

News may be reaching you from someone who has been far away, and your heart is ready to trust it. Hafez lets go and gives his heart to the wind, and the same wind, at dawn, gives him back his life. This ghazal also reminds you to value the advice of those who care for you; you may only now see how wise it was. Above all, it closes with a promise: a good nature brings its own reward. Stay kind, stay open, and trust that your wish is on its way.

The ghazal in English

Last night the wind brought news of the beloved who had travelled;
I too will give my heart to the wind: whatever will be, will be.

It has come to this: I make my confidants
the flashing lightning every evening and the wind every morning.

Caught in the twist of your tress, my unguarded heart
never once said, "May my old home be remembered."

Today I have learned the worth of the counsel of dear ones:
O Lord, may the soul of our adviser be gladdened by you.

My heart turned to blood in memory of you whenever, in the meadow,
the wind undid the fastening of the rosebud's coat.

My frail being had slipped from my grasp;
at dawn, with the scent of union with you, the wind gave me back my life.

Hafez, your good nature will bring you your wish:
may souls be offered for people of good nature.
