The story

Persiahaus Studio drew hoopoe with its fanned, black-tipped crest, long beak and barred black and white wings, on a branch, against a saffron halo on turquoise, beside the open book of Attar's Conference of the Birds.

A crested bird of village orchards became the guide of Attar's Conference of the Birds, leading thirty birds to the king they turn out to be. The full story is told in Animals of Persia.
