The day of sorrow is ending

Hafez

Last night the courier of the east wind brought me word

that the day of hardship and sorrow has turned towards its end.

To the minstrels of the morning draught we will give our torn robes

for this good news the dawn wind has brought.

Come, come, for you are the houri of paradise whom Rizvan

has brought into this world for your servant's heart.

We are going to Shiraz with the Friend's favour;

what a companion my fortune has brought along with me!

Strive to mend our hearts, for this felt cap

has often brought ruin to the royal crown.

What laments rose from my heart to the moon's halo

when it brought back the memory of that moon in the tent.

Hafez raised the victorious banner to the sky

once he took refuge at the court of the king of kings.
