Love of you, the sapling of wonder

Hafez

Love of you became the sapling of wonder;

union with you became the perfection of wonder.

How many drowned in the state of union, who in the end

came back again to the state of wonder.

Show me one heart that, on His road,

has not had wonder set as a mole upon its face.

Neither union remained, nor the one who reached it,

there where the thought of wonder came.

From every side I listened,

the sound of the question that came was wonder.

He was routed by the perfection of glory,

to whom the majesty of wonder came.

From head to foot, the being of Hafez

in love has become the sapling of wonder.
