If the Sufi drinks in measure
Hafez
If the Sufi drinks wine in measure, may it do him good;
if not, may he forget all thought of the matter.
Whoever is able to give up a single sip of wine,
may his arms hold the beloved of his desire.
Our elder said no error ever ran from the pen of creation:
blessings on his pure, fault-covering sight!
The king of the Turks listens to the words of the slanderers:
may he feel some shame for the wrong of Siavash's blood.
Though from pride he did not say a word to me, a dervish,
may my soul be offered for his silent, sugared pistachio mouth.
My eye has become one of the mirror-holders to his down and mole;
may my lip be one of the kiss-stealers from his breast and shoulder.
His drunken narcissus, gentle and kind to people,
if it drinks the lover's blood by the cupful, may it do it good.

may the ring of servitude to your curl be in his ear.
