If the saqi pours like this
Hafez
If the saqi pours wine into the cup in this way,
he will cast all the knowers into endless drinking.
And if he lays the bait of the mole beneath the curve of the curl like this,
how many a bird of reason he will cast into the snare!
Oh, the good fortune of the drunkard who, at his companion's feet,
does not know which to cast down, his head or his turban.
The raw zahid who rejects wine and the cup
will become ripe once he casts a glance at raw wine.
Strive by day to gain skill, for drinking wine by day
casts the mirror-like heart into the rust of darkness.
The time for wine as bright as morning is when the night
draws the curtain of evening round the pavilion of the horizon.
Beware, never drink wine with the city's muhtasib:
he will drink your wine and throw a stone at your cup.
Hafez, raise your head above the corner of the sun's cap
if your fortune casts the lot for that full moon.
