Breeze, you carry her scent
Hafez
Breeze, you carry the fragrance of that musk-scented curl;
may you remain as her keepsake, since you carry her scent.
My heart, which holds the jewel of the secrets of beauty and love,
can be put into your hands, if you will keep it well.
Against that lovely form nothing at all can be said
except this much: that you keep hot-tempered rivals.
O rose, how could your nightingale's song please you,
when you give your ear and mind to chattering birds?
My head is drunk on your dregs; may they do you good.
From which great jar is this, that you have in your pitcher?
O cypress by the stream, do not boast of your proud height,
for if you came near her you would bow your head in shame.
To boast, like the sun, of the kingdoms of beauty
is your right, for you have moon-faced slaves.
The robe of selling beauty suits you, and you alone,
for like the rose you have every grace of colour and scent.
Hafez, do not look for the pearl of love in the corner of the cloister;
step outside, if you have the wish to search.
