The story
A shamseh, from shams, sun, is the radiant medallion that illuminators placed at the opening of fine manuscripts, a disc ringed with fine rays. Taken off the page, it becomes simply a sun.
Persiahaus Studio set sunbursts low on a horizon, each one a many-pointed star behind a saffron disc with a red centre, above bands of paper, red, saffron and ink. On turquoise, across three canvases, the suns sit like a row of medallions on the edge of the land.
