The story
Chahar bagh means fourfold garden: a walled enclosure divided into four quarters by channels of water that meet at a central pool. Gardens on this plan were made across Iran and far beyond, and several Persian gardens are now listed together as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Persiahaus Studio drew the plan from above in ink and lapis on white: a thin wall, blue channels crossing at a star-shaped pool, and rows of flame-shaped cypresses filling each quarter. Across three canvases the garden repeats, the way a pattern repeats on cloth.
