The story
An iwan is a vaulted hall walled on three sides and open on the fourth, usually fronted by a tall pointed arch. Many Persian mosques and caravanserais arrange four iwans around a courtyard, so the visitor is always facing a doorway into depth.
Persiahaus Studio drew a row of pointed arches, each made of several nested arches in paper, ink, saffron and pomegranate, with a saffron disc at its heart. On a turquoise ground across three canvases, the portals stand side by side like a courtyard facade.
